I have spent 18 1/2 years in the MN Army National Guard. 6 1/2 years of that, I lead a team of 8 SME’s, training Soldiers of the MN National Guard, Active Duty, and Reserves on Physical Fitness, Sleep, Nutrition, Mental, and Spirituality needs. My main focus was on sleep, injury prevention, program design, running biomechanics, fitness techniques, and group fitness. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife, three kids, and dog Stella. We like traveling to different camp sites, hiking, really anything outdoors together. I also enjoy anything dealing with different types of fitness from resistance training to competing in half/full marathons.

I’ve been part of the team since February 2020, and I absolutely love what I do. With a background in healthcare and experience as a health coach, helping people improve their quality of life has always been a true passion of mine. Working as a chiropractic assistant allows me to combine compassion and empathy while providing a variety of therapies, and it’s especially rewarding to witness the real, positive changes our patients experience every day.

I also coordinate the Activate Metabolics Program, and after going through my own weight loss journey, I understand firsthand the powerful benefits that come from making healthy lifestyle changes. I’m always eager to educate, encourage, and support clients as they begin their own journey toward reaching their goals.

For me, early injuries caused 13 years of life-changing back pain. I got help from a chiropractor in high school, and while I was able to play basketball (even into college), I was always guarded and worried about my back. The chronic pain left me frustrated with my body.

During graduate school, the pain became unbearable. I was ready to quit! It was exhausting to spend every day in pain. At the exact right time, a friend invited me for a weekend of “different continuing education” that lead to a whole new path of learning and excitement to help people.

I began training in functional medicine, lifestyle medicine and nutritional counseling, which has continued for more than 14 years. After more than 10 years in practice I have added certifications in the McKenzie Method, SFMA, FMS, Physical Therapy and Rehab, and animal chiropractic care. These different approaches all come together to make for a big picture experience when you come to our clinic.

I love evolving my skills to provide a quality experience for patients! It’s my mission to give the gift I was given; the hope of feeling my best every day. I am a dad, husband, and geek. For instance, don’t get me started on Lord of the Rings or Middle Earth in general! I enjoy lifting weights, playing video games and being outdoors as much as possible. Todd Nicholson is a native of Storm Lake, Iowa. He and his wife Rachel moved to Minnesota in 2021 and he has been working as a home care physical therapist around the area. Previously, he owned his own outpatient clinic in Storm Lake and now joins Rising Sun Chiropractic with over 34 years of experience. He has treated patients of all ages with all types of injuries and loves helping people get back to an active and vibrant lifestyle. He has experience with dry needling and vestibular rehab as well as treating multiple orthopedic conditions.

Todd and Rachel have 3 adult children and 2 dogs who love to roam on their acreage outside of Lake Crystal. They love hiking in the woods, traveling, sharing their love of music and church, playing games and relaxing on their property. Todd is an avid Vikings fan as a season ticket holder and also loves the Iowa Hawkeyes and Los Angeles Dodgers. After a basketball injury went untreated, I found myself dealing with relentless headaches, migraines, and jaw pain. Visiting a chiropractor was a turning point—he truly listened to me and kickstarted my recovery journey. That initial visit changed everything, and years later, I’m leagues ahead of where I was. I owe so much to that experience!

Not long after my journey began, one of our dogs jumped off the couch and was in severe pain. I wanted to help him the way my chiropractor had helped me, and that moment sparked a passion: I knew I wanted to provide the same compassionate care to both people and animals, improving their lives just as mine had been.

I earned my Bachelor of Human Biology degree in 2017 and my Doctor of Chiropractic in 2019, both from Northwestern Health Sciences University. In 2019, I became certified in animal chiropractic through Options for Animals and have since taken advanced courses specializing in farm animals. I have completed my certification for dry needling in 2022. Alongside my practice, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to teach Anatomy and Physiology at Rasmussen University for over a year.

I grew up in Le Center and now live in the area with my husband and three kids on our family farm, where we grow crops, raise beef, and milk cows.
